@’s First Knock-Knock Joke

@: Knock, knock, mommy?!
Me: Who’s there?
@: I pee-pee!
Me: I pee-pee who?
@: I pee-pee! (Big laughter)
Me: I pee-pee?
@: Yup! (More big laughter)
Pause
Me: (my best fake, genuine, big laughter)
Me: You should tell that one to J. (his speech therapist)
@: Okay!

One hour later… Arrive @ speech therapy & we first encounter S. the office manager.

Me: @, why don’t you tell S. your joke.

@: Yup! (More big laughter)
Pause

J: Who’s there?
@: I poopy!
J: (pause) I don’t like this joke.
@: (look on face - utter astonishment)
J: I thought it was I pee-pee? I don’t like I poopy. I pee-pee is better.
@: Knock, knock?!
J: Who’s there?
@: I pee-pee!
J: I pee-pee who?
@: I pee-pee! (Big laughter)
J: I pee-pee?

He Loves Me

(While changing H's diaper)

@: You're pretty. (I've never been called that before, just cute)
Me: Thank you!
@: I love you.
Me: I love you too.
@: I like you.
Me: I like you too.
@: Do you like my feet? (feet through the bars on the crib where I am changing H)
Me: Yes, I like your feet.

A Plant Named Bloom

(Someone gave me a thank you plant from @'s class and he thinks it is his.)
We were getting ready to run a couple of errands and the kids were playing on the deck. @ was on his trike and I asked him what he was doing and he said he was giving his plant a ride.

The next night we were getting ready for bed and he said wait a minute and wanted out on the deck. He came back in and said his plant wanted to sleep inside. I asked him what his plant's name was and he said Bloom. He also wanted Bloom to sleep in his room but I told him that Bloom would be more comfortable on the kitchen table.

It might be time to get some fish...

Pink Cat

@: I don’t like that cat (pointing to our cat), I want a pink cat.

Me: Where do you get a pink cat?

@: The doctor’s.

Me: So, you go to the doctor’s and they have pink cats?

@: No, one cat, in a cage. I want to get it.

@'s First Pet 05.09

~ So today we were outside at school on the playground looking under a log for bugs when I thought I had found several little skinny worms. I was excited to find a cache of bugs for the kids but was promptly corrected by one of the 3-4 year olds that they indeed weren't worms because they had feet. On closer look by me, I realized the did have feet! So, I called them centipedes, waiting for one of the kids to tell me it was a millipede! They didn't.

~ But during this exploration, @ found 3 Rolly Polly bugs that we put into a food sample cup to examine up close. He informed me they were his pets and he wanted to take them home. He also wanted to name them. When I asked him what he wanted to name them, he replied, "Tiger!" I asked if they were all named Tiger, he concurred that they were.

~So we took them home, losing one in the car while going around a corner, and found a "cage" for them made from a huge cream cheese bucket to which we added some fresh leaves, soil and twigs and then cut some large holes out of the top so we can watch @'s new pets, Tiger and Tiger.

~They are currently on view on our coffee table where his little sister, LMS is desparately trying to find ways to play with them despite my warnings that they are trying to rest after their big move!

~I guess this is better than the bunny @ wanted at Easter or the hummingbird the cat caught and killed that he asked if he could keep in his room in a bowl. Right?!
